My interest in art is closely connected with the figure, the sculptural tradition of more ancient times. I am building my work on the solid foundations of ancient civilizations and great individuals whose mastery has paved the way for all of us. From the very beginning of my entry into the world of art, and especially sculpture, figuration has proven to be a feature of my work. My work is manifested in traditional techniques and materials, such as drawing, clay, plaster, wood, stone, …
I perceive most of my works so far as reflections and sketches for large-scale works. I am fascinated by monumentality, shape, plasticity, figuration, architecture, size and strength.
Elements that occupy my thoughts are clarity, ambiguity, architecture, depth, static, dynamism, liveliness, naturalness, stylization, originality, purity, truth, … Themes and ideas related to my work are mostly related to my previous inner preoccupations, myths, and personal experiences. The figure is my means of expression that gives me a kind of freedom and a kind of challenge.
I find role models in great masters and their peculiarities such as Michelangelo’s grandiosity and skill, formative sophistication and sensuality of Auguste Rodin, architect and lyricist Antoine Bourdelle, strength and monumentality of Ivan Meštrović, purity and refined mastery of feeling for matter by Frane Kršinić.
